City to discuss wind project
City commissioners who are meeting Tuesday will be discussing a $14 million community wind project, proposed at a site about six miles south of Garden City, just west of U.S. Highway 83 and directly north of Buffalo Dunes Golf Course.
The three-turbine wind project could generate up to 6.3 megawatts of power and would offset energy that otherwise would be purchased from Wheatland Electric, creating a long-term cost savings to the city, officials have said.
The city spent just less than $20,000 in late April for Greensburg-based BTI Wind Energy to conduct the project feasibility study, which will be presented at 2:30 p.m.
The city's Tuesday meeting begins at 1 p.m. at the Garden City Administrative Center, 301 N. Eighth St.
Holcomb, Garden City and Finney County officials also will be holding a joint meeting beginning at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the same location to discuss drainage ditch maintenance issues, ongoing road projects and funding plans for the Finney County Economic Development Corporation. All three entities are funding partners of FCEDC.
