Southwest Regional Prevention Center

Prevention Center History --The Southwest Kansas Regional Prevention Center is one of thirteen centers state-wide, established in 1988 through a grant from Kansas State Rehabilitative Services – Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services (SRS-ADAS). The prevention center system is part of an ongoing continuum of prevention and treatment in the state. We serve twenty-five counties within our region. Because of the vast area, our primary service is one of availability and specific work when requested through special programs or coalition involvement.

Purpose -- The SWKRPC works in conjunction with Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services and local coalitions to advance the importance of sound prevention efforts through education and a research-based approach. Our approach to prevention is through the Communities That Care model of Risk and Protective Factors related to substance abuse and other problem behaviors such as delinquency, teen pregnancy, violence and school dropout. We further serve as a clearinghouse for educational materials, training and the identification of the premier practices in prevention science.

Serving the counties of: -- Barber, Kiowa, Clark, Lane, Comanche, Meade, Edwards, Morton, Finney, Ness, Ford, Pratt, Grant, Scott, Gray, Seward, Greeley, Stafford, Hamilton, Stanton, Haskell, Stevens, Hodgeman, Wichita, and Kearny.
